Massachusetts Guidelines for 
Adult Diabetes Care
Diabetes Control Program

These guidelines were developed collaboratively by the Diabetes Control Program at Mass Dept. of Public Health with representatives from the major insurers across the state.  They are the accepted guidelines of the MassHealth Primary Care Clinician (PCC) Plan.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Massachusetts


Blue Cross & Blue Shield does not currently have recommended diabetes guidelines.  However, specific medical policies on a variety of clinical topics are available for download by clinicians.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has been actively involved in the development and dissemination of diabetes care standards, guidelines, and related documents for many years. This compilation contains all current ADA position statements related to clinical practice. It is a convenient and important resource for all health care professionals who care for people with diabetes.

Diabetes In America, 2nd Edition

Diabetes in America, 2nd Edition, is a 733-page compilation and assessment of epidemiologic, public health, and clinical data on diabetes and its complications in the United States.  It is published by the National Diabetes Data Group of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. 

National Guidelines Clearinghouse (NGC)

The National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) is a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents produced by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP).

The NGC provides a link to national guidelines and recommendations.  You can compare guidelines using this site or reference the actual documents

Search by disease.  Then, decide if you want to view brief summary, complete summary or full text.
