National Organizations

  • American Diabetes Association (ADA)
    The mission of the organization is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.  A section of this website is devoted exclusively to resources for healthcare  professionals as well as resources that are useful for their patients.
  • American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE)
    The American Association of Diabetes Educators is dedicated to advancing the role of the diabetes educator and improving the quality of diabetes education and care.  The website contains many resources to help diabetes educators with Core Curriculums, Cultural Competency Materials, and Specialty Practice Group Resources.
  • National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP)
    The National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) is a federally sponsored initiative that involves public and private partners to improve the treatment and outcomes for people with diabetes, to promote early diagnosis, and ultimately to prevent the onset of diabetes. The website contains materials for healthcare providers, community organizations, and patients.
  • National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
    The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases conducts and supports research on many of the most serious diseases affecting public health. The website contains information on health topics, clinical trials, national education programs, federal research programs, congressional reports, and strategic planning for minorities with health disparities.
  • National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse (NDIC)
    The National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse (NDIC) is an information dissemination service of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).  Publications about all aspects of diabetes are available as well as the Combined Health Information Database (CHID), a database of health education materials produced by health-related agencies of the federal government.
  • Joslin Diabetes Center
    Joslin Diabetes Center and the Joslin Clinic are international leaders in diabetes treatment, research, and education. Affiliated with Harvard Medical School and the CareGroup Hospital system, the Joslin leads the field in basic and clinical research and is devoted to educating patients and healthcare professionals.  Headquartered in Boston, Joslin has facilities throughout Massachusetts, as well as affiliated diabetes treatment centers throughout the US.

  • Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International 
    The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International (JDF) is the world’s leading nonprofit, nongovernmental funder of diabetes research. Founded in 1970 by parents of children with diabetes, JDF’s mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
  • National Eye Institute (NEI)
    The National Eye Institute (NEI) supports more than 80 percent of the vision research conducted in the United States at approximately 250 medical centers, hospitals, universities, and other institutions. In addition, the Institute conducts studies in its own facilities in Bethesda, Maryland to combat the myriad of eye disorders affecting millions of people worldwide. This site also has a section devoted to National Diabetes Month (November) and diabetic eye disease. 
  • Improving Chronic Care Illness  
    Improving Chronic Illness Care, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is dedicated to the idea that United States health care can do better. The 99 million Americans who suffer from diabetes, depression and other chronic conditions can lead healthier lives. Providers who care for chronically ill patients can be better supported with guidelines, specialty expertise and information systems. Overall health care costs can be lowered through better care delivery.  This wonderful web site contains useful chronic care tools and resources for both health care professionals and patients.  
  • Center Watch  
    Center Watch is a Boston-based clinical trials listing service dedicated to providing patients and their advocates with a variety of information services about clinical research.  You can search by disease entity and state.  Center Watch also provides a database of FDA approved drugs, drugs currently being used in clinical trials, and results of clinical trials.  The site also contains links to hundreds of other disease foundations and other valuable clinical trial resources. 
  • Weight Control Information Network  
    The Weight-Control Information Network (WIN) is a national information service of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH).  WIN produces, collects, and disseminates materials on obesity, weight control, and nutrition.
  • American Dietetic Association (ADA)
    This website has plenty of nutrition information for the dietary and non-dietary healthcare professional who manages diabetic patients.  You can search the website for articles related to diabetes as well as browse their catalog of nutrition publications. 
  • Agency for Health Care Research & Quality
    The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is the lead federal agency charged with supporting research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost, and broaden access to essential services.  The agency also provides evidence-based information on health care outcomes; quality; and cost, use, and access. Information from AHRQ’s research helps people make more informed decisions and improve the quality of health care services.
